UF Orthopaedics Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) Faculty delivered key research and won awards at the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine National Meeting held in Orlando, Florida April 25-29, 2018:
- Dr. Jason Zaremski’s observational study, “An Unaccounted Workload Factor: Pitch Counts in High School Baseball Pitchers. An Observational Study.” was selected as the Best Overall Research Award winner for AMSSM 2018. It was selected from 184 research submissions for 2018. Dr. Zaremski’s team included orthopaedic and rehabilitation faculty members Dr. MaryBeth Horodyski and Dr. Heather Vincent as well as research staff member Ms. Michelle Bruner.
- Dr. Kevin Vincent served in a distinguished international panel of speakers who kicked off the AMSSM meeting to 2,000 members. The opening session was titled, “Reaching our stride: Hot topics in foot and ankle”. He also presented “Choosing the right running shoe.”
- Dr. Dan Herman performed a podium presentation of research on the effect of headgear use on concussion incidence in girls’ lacrosse since the inception of the helmet mandate in Florida. He also presented in sessions including, “How to survive peer review” and “Harnessing neurocognition for sports performance and rehabilitation”.
- Giorgio Negron, a medical student who was previously in the First Year Discovery Program with Drs. Heather Vincent and Dan Herman presented a case report, “16-year old baseball player with history of tingling fingers”. Andrew Harris and Christopher Massengill, also both previous Discovery Program participants with Drs. Vincent and Herman, presented their research abstracts: Mr. Massengill’s podium presentation was on “Investigating the relationship between the landing error scoring system and vertical average loading rate during running” and Mr. Harris’s poster presentation was on “The effect of visual and auditory attention tasks on running biomechanical and metabolic performance.”
