Dr. Aimee Madsen presented her META-ANALYSIS work on competitive figure skating injuries across the sport disciplines. Her poster presentation highlighted the different risks of injury based on singles, pairs, dancing and synchronized performances. Her associated manuscript has been accepted for publication in Current Sports Medicine Reports (CSMR).
Dr. Daniel Kiehl and Dr. Zane Thompson spearheaded a unique analysis of big data, titled “Life Participation in Strength Training May Preserve Function and Reduce Pain Burden In Knee Osteoarthritis”. This analysis offers unique insight from the Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI), which shows that the exposure to strengthening exercise throughout life can influence pain, physical function and pain medication use in late life. Dr. Kiehl represented the department as the selected speaker for this podium presentation. This work was mentored by Dr. Heather Vincent. The manuscript is in preparation.
Drs. Ryan Nixon and Heather Vincent shared their dual posters regarding new methods of measuring ground reaction forces and load rates in runners, with the expansion of our understanding in injury risk. The presentations were titled ‘Negative Load Rates In Ground Reaction Forces During Running By Footstrike Type and Injury Status’ and ‘Running Gait Signal Filtering Strategies And Justified Cutoff Frequencies Are Imperative For Comparative Analytics’. Other PMR staff and faculty include Dr. Kevin Vincent and Jamie Bolling
Dr. Kevin Vincent moderated the CAQ session for physician board preparation. He presented clinical review on Knee meniscus injury and knee pathology, and Dr. Heather Vincent presented Sports Nutrition review in the same session.
