Current residents Drs. David Drozda, Daniel Kiehl, Rosalynn Conic and Kailash Pendem and faculty members Dr. Paula Ackerman and Parisa Zarreii had the opportunity to share their original research at the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR) national meeting held in San Diego, CA November 6-10, 2024.
Dr. Daniel presented his sports medicine epidemiology poster titled “Injuries in Martial Arts: Concussion Rates in Various Disciplines” Authors included Daniel Kiehl, Jacob D. Purcell, Lydia Pezzullo, Jamie Bolling, Kevin R. Vincent, and mentor, Heather K. Vincent. This work identified sex differences in head injuries and which disciplines were a highest risk.
Dr. David Drozda presented two original projects, a research project and a case study. In his case study, Dr. Drozda described the unusual basicervial fracture in a male ultradistance runner who traversed the distance from Canada to Arizona, “The Trail to an Unusual Fracture Diagnosis in an Ultradistance Runner: A Case Study (coauthors Drs. Kevin Vincent, Heather K. Vincent and Jason Zaremski.” He also presented a comparative research project titled, “Adolescent vs Adult pre to post retraining for injury prevention: which group is responding better to video based, cue guided gait retraining?” Coauthors were Drs. Ryan M. Nixon, Kevin R. Vincent and mentor Heather K. Vincent.
Dr. Rosalynn Conic had the opportunity to present several studies including:
- Incidence of sports-related exertional rhabdomyolysis visits in U.S. emergency departments (ED) during 2013-2022 (Conic, H Vincent)
- Incidence of tennis-related injury visits in U.S. emergency departments: considerations for patient age (Conic, H Vincent)
- Decline in Medicare reimbursement for outpatient procedures in physical medicine and rehabilitation from 2010-2024 (Conic, D. Suraj, Dr. Paula Ackerman)
- Herpes Zoster induced lumbosacaral radiculopathy: A scoping review of diagnostic dilemmas. (coauthors Suraj D, Zhang A, Ahmed N, Shih S, Byrne J)
Relationship between long COVID and level of physical activity. (coauthors Dr. Kailash Pendem and Paula Ackerman)
An MSRP student, Joshua Weldon presented his work titled, “Inpatient functional outcomes differentially impacted by diabetes and obesity status in lower limb amputees: a retrospective analysis.” Coauthors were Drs. Parisa Zarreii, Andy Dubin and mentor Heather K. Vincent.
