In-house call takes place no more than once every three nights (when averaged over a four-week period). Call can be taken from home. There is not a night float system.
Expectations concerning when to come to the hospital while on call:
- Patient death
- Unstable and critically ill patient
- Newly diagnosed patients requiring emergent therapy
- Complex procedure requiring planning
- Family requests to speak with the physician
- Resident’s presence is requested by the attending physician
