The UF Health at Shands educational experience will consist of a wide range of rotations for the PGY 3 and PGY 4 years for 24 months. These rotations will include sports medicine, movement disorders, neuromuscular disorders, pediatrics, interventional and non-interventional pain management, electrodiagnostic testing, amputee clinics, general mixed disability clinics, post-traumatic injury and research experience. These rotations will be covered by 11 faculty with expertise in the respective areas. There is significant variety among the patient experiences within each rotation. The UF Shands HealthCare system is a Level-1 tertiary center with a catchment of approximately 3 million people. Residents will be immersed in patient experiences across the continuum of their respective illness, disease and/or injury. From the educational perspective, residents will obtain a rich holistic view of ‘real-world’ patient care from the initial admission or visit, history taking, through care plan development, implementation of rehabilitation programs and long-term care follow-up for complex needs.
Progressive resident team leadership and education of medical students and junior residents will occur as residents learn to progressively manage diverse patient resource needs, medications, assistive devices and transitions back to the community.
