About Paula Ackerman

My name is Paula Ackerman, DO, and I am an associate professor in the University of Florida Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. I attended the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio. Afterward, I completed my residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Albany Medical Center in New York. I have worked in private practice in Cincinnati, Ohio, and in academic practice at the University of Kentucky prior to joining the UF Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in September 2022.

I care for adults with cerebral palsy and other neuromuscular disorders who have transitioned out of pediatric-based care. I also partner in the care of patients with neurological disorders such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease and peripheral nerve disorders. In my care, I perform electrodiagnosis/EMG and botulinum toxin (Botox) injections for spasticity, dystonia and migraines, among other procedures. I also provide orthotic prescription for devices that assist with ambulation.

As a physician, my goal is to help patients gain and maintain function to improve their overall quality of life.

During my free time, I enjoy spending time in the outdoors.
